Oysters and Afternoon Tea in NYC
Here are more of the oysters we had...
While in NY, we had afternoon tea at the St. Regis Hotel . It is an absolutely beautiful hotel. The pastries were as good as they looked. There was even real edible gold foil on the chocolate tart - very fancy shmanzy :) It was all yummy.
We also had finger sandwiches and champagne with our tea. You can see Dick reaching for the champagne here...he couldn't wait :) We spent a couple of hours there...just enjoying the afternoon, the food and the ambiance. We had been walking all day, so it was nice to just "chill". And we saw lots of "shoppers" coming in. The hotel is off 5th Ave, so you had the "can't-be-too-tall-or-too-thin-or-too-fashionable" crowd having afternoon tea. So, of course, all 4'11" of me...from NH...with my comfortable shoes...fit in perfectly!! :) At least I was wearing my black jeans :)
And here is the lobby of the St. Regis - quite ornate and lots of marble.

It's funny, I live in New York and I've never been to either place!
Well, NY is just so huge and has so many places...you can't make it to all of them! :) Plus, they always say that when you live somewhere, you tend to take things for granted and don't "visit" places like a tourist would.
Are oysters slimy? They look slimy to me... and I tend to not like to eat slimy things...
But those pastries look scrumptious! Mmmm...
Someday I'll visit NYC. I can't believe I haven't! I even have an old friend from Texas that lives there with her husband...
Hmmmm...slimy...I guess you could say that, but they are quite good. You don't really notice the "slime" :)
And yes, the pastries were delic.
And NYC is AWESOME!! One of my favorite places.
Just wanted to let you know, I finished The Book Thief...kind of depressing, but very gripping! I finished it in record time :)
Bearette - That's how everyone in our book club felt, too. We just couldn't book the book down...or stop listening to it! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I wish I were more adventurous with food. I've never tried oysters. I don't do clams or lobster either. The pictures of the oysters look good, though :)
I understand why you wouldn't try oysters. When I first tried them, I was a little hesitant...maybe not hesitant, but not really knowing what to expect. But I loved them...and I also like clams and lobster. Whenever we're dining in Maine during the summer season (and sometimes off-season, too), I try to get something with lobster in it. My favorite...a lobster roll! :)
I used to love fried clams when I lived in New England, but then I became vegetarian, and it seems impossible to get them anywhere else anyway. I had a fleeting craving for them early in pregnancy, but I don't think there are any in Manhattan ;)
Bearette - Have you ever been to Woodman's in Massachusetts for fried clams? It's supposed to be one of the best places for fried clams. I went there once a few years ago and the fried clams were good, but since I usually don't eat fried clams, I had a hard time making a "true assessment" :) Although, I can tell you, it's one of the biggest plates of fried clams I've ever seen!!
P.S. And you're right, I don't think of "fried clams" when I think of Manhattan! ;)
I'm not sure...it sounds familiar, but I don't think I've been there. I think the last time I had them may have been near Hampton Beach in NH? God, I used to love tartar sauce ;)
I thought of you today. In the local newspaper on Thursdays there is a section called TASTE. I like to glance at it... and today's had a picture of oysters on the front.
: )
Thanks, Tracy for thinking of me when you saw a photo of oysters...I think that's an OK thing!! :)
