Sand Sculptures

Last month, Dick and I went to Hampton Beach, NH to see the sand sculpture contest. It was the last day the artists could work on the sculptures. It was pretty neat. I learned that the sand is trucked it from somewhere else since it is "better" sand to sculpt with and that each artist gets 10 tons of it to work with. They all have the same amount of hours to complete theirs respective pieces. I don't think I took a photo of the winner, but here is the link to the photos of all the sculptures and showing the winner and runner-ups (better pictures than mine)http://www.hamptonbeach.org/sandcastle-competition-gallery07.cfm .

Red Sox and Brooklyn Dodgers

Oh no...Red Sox are only 6.5 games ahead of the Yankees and 61 games to go. GO RED SOX!!!!

BTW, I just watched a documentary on HBO on the Brooklyn Dodgers - great program. I can't imagine loving and supporting a team as rabidly as the Dodgers fans did and then have the team move 3,000 miles away a year or 2 after winning their first World Series. That's tough.

I actually have seen people wear Brooklyn Dodgers caps - even people that weren't around back in the 1950's when the team left L.A. The Brooklyn Dodgers caps look just like the Boston Red Sox caps - which I realized when I was in NYC in April. I saw this guy with a cap, which I mistook for Boston, and I started talking to him about how great the Sox were doing and how I hope they sweep the Yankees that weekend (Sox were in the Bronx that coming weekend), etc. He's kind of looking at me with a disgusted look and then says - "it's a Brooklyn Dodgers cap". "Oh, sorry", I say, and I proceeded on my merry way...a little embarrassed. Oh well, it's not the first time that I've been embarrassed, and I'm sure it won't be the last!

Boston, Smart Cars, The Red Sox and Fireworks

Dick and I were in Boston for a 3 days/2 nights - 07/03-07/05. We really enjoyed ourselves. Most of the time, when we go to Boston, it's just for the day since were just under an hour from Boston, but we had tickets to the Red Sox v. Tampa Bay on 07/03 and decided to also attend the Boston Pops/Fireworks on 07/04.

While in Boston, we came across a promotion for the Smart Cars. As you can see, they are pretty small, but surprisingly, quite a lot of head and leg room inside (even for Dick!)- but not much room for anything else. We had seen these cars when we were in Paris in 2003 and thought they would be great vehicles for cities like NY, Boston, Chicago, etc. As you can see, the car is actually backed into a spot - so you wouldn't even have to parallel park and you'd be able to fit into really tight parking spaces. BTW, we got free Smart Car t-shirts for filling out a quick survey.

The Red Sox game was great since we won - yeah!! We had good seats right on the 3rd base line. And Dice-K pitched - he's awesome! And Papelbon closed. I've got some photos below.

And the Boston fireworks were awesome!! We were right on the dock/water at Community Boating which is right next to the Hatch Shell and we had an excellent view of the fireworks. I was so enthralled with the fireworks, I didn't take any pics. They had the very complex fw's, but also had smiley faces and numbers. It rained that evening - off and on - but it was so worth it. We had our ponchos and it was just great!
